Call for Entry: The Neon Show

America loves neon. And Austin’s full of it.

Austin is a town that worships neon. It lights up our life all over the city, as it does all around the country. We’ll pay homage to the art of neon with our gallery’s Grand Opening and exhibit reception on September 16,  The Neon Show.

YOU ARE ELIGIBLE TO SUBMIT if you are an emerging or established artist creating original works in neon or about neon, especially with neon itself, or by portraying neon in paintings, serigraphy, films/videos, traditional or digital photography, mixed media–any work where the subject matter shows neon. Submissions are now closed. Please consider some of our upcoming Calls for Entry.

HOW TO SUBMIT: You may submit up to four (4) works in any one  media for one entry fee of $35 plus sales tax (required by Texas state law). If you wish to submit works created in more than one media, please submit a separate entry for each form of media. Entries will be judged on the basis of originality; on the basis of your creative style; and in consideration of your professional execution. If you work in neon, your  assistance in delivering, hanging and lighting your work is required for acceptance to exhibit. The chosen entries will be exhibited in downtown Austin at Austin Details Art + Photo gallery, 106 East 8th Austin, TX 78701, with an opening reception on September 16.

DEADLINE for submissions: August 23, 2010 (requests for extension cannot be considered).

ACCEPTANCE: You will receive notification if accepted, or not, by September 1 via email.

YOUR ORIGINAL ART IS DUE at our downtown Austin gallery at 106 East 8th, Austin, TX 78701 the week of September 6: You will be notified of details by email.

EXHIBIT RUNS SEPTEMBER 16-OCTOBER 8, 2010. Grand Opening for the gallery and reception for The Neon Show is September 16. Gallery founder and director Jann Alexander, a noted fine artist / photographer and a nationally-known art director / designer who’s been passionate about neon since she fist saw it glow, will jury the show.

SUBMIT JPEGS ONLY: up to four (4) jpegs in quantity, maximum 1000 kb each, sampled and saved as high quality (not maximum) jpegs in sRGB colorspace. If you are submitting video, please provide only a link to a website where your video is posted. You will receive payment confirmation with submission instructions after you have paid. No mail or print entries are accepted. Mailed entries cannot be returned.

COST: The cost of your entry of up to four (4) works in one media is $35 plus tax.

TO ENTER: click the “Pay Now” button below. After you complete your payment, you will be directed to a form where you can accept our Terms of Submission (below), provide  your information and upload your entries.

Because we know artists hate rules, we have just a few.

You will be asked to agree to our Terms of Submission to Austin Details Art + Photo:

• The work(s) you are submitting is/are original and one-of-a-kind, created by you, the legal copyright-owner, in 2008-2010; the work(s) is/are free of copyright infringements; and you are willing to pay our $35 nonrefundable entry/handling fee for considering your work(s). If you are submitting historical work that predates this century, please contact us at info@austindetailsart.com re how to proceed.
• You understand that our juror(s) may choose one, all or none of the works you submit; if chosen, you agree to provide the original(s) for hanging by the date we request in our acceptance notice, and you agree to allow Austin Details Art + Photo to publicize your work in any media and manner we deem appropriate. Of course you will retain all rights to your own original work(s) of art.
• You agree that if your artwork is sold by Austin Details Art + Photo, we will deduct necessary presentation and shipping expenses and sales tax, and you will receive 60 % of the pre-tax sale price within 30 days of sale. You agree that if you sell your exhibited art within the 60-day period after the exhibit ends due to exposure by Austin Details Art + Photo, 25 % of your pre-tax sale price is due to us within 30 days of sale.
• (Optional) If accepted, you may wish to allow Austin Details Art + Photo to negotiate sale price on your behalf up to a 10% reduction without requiring your permission.
• You will carry your own insurance for any artworks you submit and that we accept for exhibit on our premises. Though we will take reasonable precautions to care for your work, we are not responsible for any damage or theft or loss or unforeseen circumstances while handling, exhibiting, promoting or shipping your work.
• You will promptly pick up (or arrange for pre-paid return shipping) for your artwork at the exhibit’s end, within 10 days of our request, to avoid donation to Goodwill.
